Our bodies are pretty neat. On a daily basis we are exposed to countless toxins, chemicals, heavy metals, and bacteria. From cleaning products to artificial dyes and preservatives to chemicals in our drinking water and pesticides on our foods, everywhere you turn - there seems to be another thing to worry about affecting our health. If you spent enough time worrying about the toxins we encounter on a daily basis, you would wrap yourself in bubble and never leave home. But this isn’t anyway to live. And the truth is, the reality of the world we live in- is one in which plastics, carcinogens, chemicals, and pesticides are a part of daily life.
It is a good thing our bodies have such an amazing detoxification system already built in! Our bodies are designed to self-protect through various measures such as acidity in our stomachs to bacteria in our intestines, an immune system made of an army of white blood cells, an waste system designed to eliminate what we don’t need, and of course, our amazing liver- the detox organ king, which works hard to un-arm toxins and turn them into a form that our bodies can then send on their way out.
Most of us will go a lifetime without any major issue with our liver shutting down. (And thank goodness for that because without the liver, we can’t live!) But most of us WILL experience an abundance of exposures, sluggish digestion, and less than optimal nutrition, all which can make our detoxification pathways in our livers work a little less efficiently.
The word “detox” or “cleanse” sort of makes me want to cringe, OR roll my eyes quite dramatically. These words have become cliche and overused and suggest that our bodies don’t function well without outside assistance. But I prefer to refer to what others may call a “detox,” as more of a momentary break from day to day life in which special attention is given to encourage optimization of biochemical pathways in the body.
Simply put: Taking a pause from normal exposures as much as possible (via foods, artificial sweeteners, dyes, chemicals, etc) and nourishing the body with nutrient dense foods and concentrated vitamins and minerals (that we typically don’t get from our diets) that the body needs to both optimally neutralize toxins and remove them from the body. (AKA cleanse… or detox the body).
Truth be told: Toxins most definitely build up in our bodies. The Environmental Working Group spearheaded a study that showed over 287 chemicals were detected in the umbilical cord blood of unborn children! Of these chemicals, 180 are known to cause cancer, 217 are toxic to both the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects! THIS IS BEFORE BIRTH! It is also a well-known fact that fat cells are storage centers for toxins (particularly a variety called POPs… which the EPA categorizes as toxic chemicals that adversely affect human health and the environment). Unfortunately, POPs are found in countless places including heavily used pesticides, industrial chemicals, and by-products of both industrial and agricultural processes. In addition, there are many other substances that body needs to detox such as alcohol, drugs (including pharmaceutical, over the counter, or recreational), other toxins (shampoos, make up, plastics, chemicals), environmental pollutants, use of microwaves, and even endogenous substances from inside our bodies such as hormones! But did you catch that?! YOUR FAT holds TOXINS inside your body.
So how do you know if your liver needs a little extra love? There are few signs to recognize that you may want to lend your liver a hand. -Bloating or abdominal discomfort -Bad breath or yellow/white coated tongue -Fluid retention or congested sinuses -Weight loss resistance or weight gain (regardless of calorie restriction) -Acne, itchy skin, rashes or Dark spots on the skin -Fatigue -Excessive sweating or Body odor -Insomnia -High Cholesterol -Nutrient deficiencies (Vitamin D, iron, Magnesium in particular) -Digestive issues (reflux, heartburn, diarrhea or constipation) -Sugar crashes and cravings -Hormonal imbalances or PMS -Frequent colds or flu
If you read that list and nod your head yes in response - then the Designs for Health Cleanse Program may be a good fit for you! Did I mention it is FREE!?!? (with cost of only the supplement kit).

The PaleoCleanse Plus (or VeganCleanse Plus) Program has a goal to “gently and slowly support the process of metabolic detoxification. We live in an ever-increasingly toxic environment. Many of the toxins, also known as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), are abundant in the environment today and did not exist 30 years ago. These new toxins include certain pesticides, herbicides, and industrial chemicals that can enter the body through food, water, and air supplies. These toxins can and often do become trapped in the body's organs and tissues, which over time can negatively impact health, vitality, and overall wellness, and may contribute to the development of chronic illness. A detoxification program should be simple to complete, effective in outcome, and without concern for safety. By supporting the body’s natural two-phase process of detoxification, toxins can safely and effectively be cleansed from the body.”
The program will span 14 days with guidelines of foods to eat and foods to avoid - while utilizing targeted supplements and shakes that support Phase 1 and Phase 2 liver detoxification, help protect the liver from any toxins mobilized for excretion, and keep digestive discomfort at bay.
We will prep for the program for 1 week prior to start and follow up with 1 week post program. START DATE IS APRIL 22 for a week to prepare, the protocol beginning APRIL 29, lasting two weeks, and our final week readjusting to typical routine starting MAY 13.
